Sally Cox Burroughs Sally Cox Burroughs, age 94, of Americus, died at Perfect Care Monday, March 31, 2014. A native of Americus, she was born October 13, 1919, the daughter of the late Tom Mathew and Laura Fulbright Cox. Mrs. Burroughs was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Adult Sunday School Class, Salem Saints, United Methodist Women, Dogwood Garden Club, United Daughters of the Confederacy and Daughters of the American Revolution. She retired from Manhattan Shirt Company after 38 years of employment. She was president of the Local Union #226 and Vice-President and Political Action Chairman of Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America. Mrs. Burroughs was an avid gardener and she loved traveling and cooking. Services will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at 1:00 PM at Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Lawrence Wiggins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Andersonville National Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 903 Upper River Rd., Americus, GA 31709 or to the Sumter Humane Society, 108 Industrial Blvd., Americus, Ga. 31719. Survivors include a daughter, Connie Saunders of Americus; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Karen Pratt of Americus; four sisters, Alma Camp of Americus, Dot Barnette of Greer, SC, Rena Deriso of Americus and Rosa Preskitt of Americus; two brothers, Agustus Gus Cox of Leesburg and Jack Cox of Americus; three grandchildren, Pam Saunders of Charleston, SC, Melissa Meyer of Nantucket, Mass., and Anna Howard of Athens; and also a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Burroughs and a sister, Martha Garrett.
William David (Buddy) Chapman, 81, passed away today, March 31, 2014 at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Al. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11 AM EST in the Blakely Cemetery. Rev. Jay Reppert officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday morning from 10 AM until 10:45 AM EST.
Buddy was born Early Co., Ga. July 1, 1932 to the late Joe Chapman and Millie Sue Gill Chapman. He was a member of Westview United Methodist Church in Blakely and was retired from Swift Textile Co. and Dothan Securities as a Security Guard. He also served in the U.S. Army. Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Ruby Lee Cox Chapman, a brother Bobby Chapman and by 4 sisters Helen Smith, Earlene Stagg, Sandra Lawson and Daphene Chapman.
Buddy is survived by a sister Melba (Sissy) Grimsley and husband Chuck of Headland, Al. and by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews that loved their “Uncle Buddy”.
Arthur Marion Leadingham Sr., 85, of Blackshear, died Sunday afternoon, March 30, 2014, at his residence following an extended illness.
